01 · what does a website cost in 2026
What a website costs in 2026.
A website is priced one of two ways. You pay once to have it built and then own a file nobody maintains, or you pay every month and the site keeps getting worked on. Both are legitimate, and they fail in different ways.
I do the second one. $1,000 a month covers the Websites line: design, build, the conversion work after launch, hosting and maintenance. No setup fee, so the first month costs what every month costs.
I will not print somebody else's price as if I verified it. What I can tell you is why the quotes you are holding disagree by a factor of ten.
02 · what changes the price of a website
What changes a website's price.
Five things. Every quote you hold is some combination of them, and most do not tell you which.
Page count
A five page site and a forty page site are different jobs. Six services in three parts of The Valley needs pages for each, and page count is the biggest driver of a build price.
Who writes the words
Most build quotes assume you supply the copy, and that is where projects stall for months. Ask whether writing is included, because if it is not, the real cost includes a writer or your own evenings.
Whether anything happens after launch
A launched site is the start of the work. Nobody gets the layout right first time, and the changes that come from watching real visitors are where the money returns.
Custom design or a template
A template with your logo dropped in is fast and looks like a template. Layouts built around your own services take longer and read as yours. Only one of them survives your competitor buying the same template.
What is bolted on
Booking, payments, a client portal, a second language, an accessibility pass. Each is real work, and each should be a named line in a quote rather than a lump sum.
03 · is a low website price worth it
What a low website price buys.
A template, stock photography, copy you write yourself, and nobody answering the phone in month three. That is not fraud. It is what the number pays for.
The expensive version of a low price is the rebuild. Owners in The Valley routinely pay twice, once for a site that was never going to work and once for its replacement. If you are on your third site in five years, that is what happened.
Crawl what you already have, find out whether the problem is the site or the traffic, then decide. That check costs nothing.
04 · website design cost comparison
Four ways to get a website built.
You are already on one of these.
| option | How it is priced | What goes wrong |
|---|---|---|
| Build it yourself on a template platform | A monthly subscription, plus your own time | The build is genuinely doable. Knowing which six pages earn the business, and writing them, is the part that stalls. Most owners get to eighty percent and stop |
| Hire a freelancer for a one time build | One payment up front, sometimes in stages | You own a finished file and no relationship. When something breaks in month four, the person who built it has three new clients and you are in a queue |
| Hire an agency | A larger project fee, then a retainer | You get a process built for a client fifty times your size, a junior on the account, and a longer chain between the decision and the person making the change |
| mineOne senior person on a monthly line | $1,000 a month, no setup fee, three months, then month to month | It only works if the person actually does the work. Ask who touches the site, get the name, and check that the answer stays the same after you sign |
05 · how much does a website cost per month
What I charge for a website.
$1,000 a month for the Websites line: design and build, ecommerce, the accessibility work, the conversion work after launch, hosting and maintenance. The same number I quote everybody, printed here instead of behind a call.
Run a second line with me and the two together are $1,799 a month. Three are $2,499.
No setup fee. Three months, then month to month, thirty days notice in writing. You own the domain, the site, the hosting, the analytics and every image on it, and you leave with a full export.
I will not promise you a position in Google. Nobody controls that, including me. What I do promise is that every change is dated and named where you can read it.
