article · AI LOCAL SEARCH 2026
Buyers Are AskingAI First.
BrightLocal's Local Consumer Review Survey 2026 found that 45 percent of consumers now use AI tools to find a local business, up from 6 percent the year before. That is the fastest shift in local search since phones.

01 · how many people use ai to find local businesses
Where the 45 percent figure came from.
According to BrightLocal's Local Consumer Review Survey 2026, 45 percent of consumers now use generative AI tools to find local business recommendations, up from 6 percent in the 2025 edition of the same survey, run on a representative panel of 1,002 US adults.
Two figures matter more than the headline. Adoption is highest among 30 to 44 year olds at 64 percent, the buying age for most professional services, and 42 percent of consumers say they trust an AI recommendation as much as a written review.
One survey is one instrument. But a seven-fold jump in one year is not noise, and it landed in the age band that pays for legal, dental and financial work.
02 · what does ai local search mean for my business
What AI search changed for local business.
The retrieval changed. The content did not. When somebody asks an AI tool for the best CPA near them, the tool assembles an answer out of what it can read about you: your site, your Google Business Profile, your reviews, and whatever third parties have written down.
So the work is the same work. The answer now arrives as a short list with no second page, and being the fourth-best option on it is close to not being on it.
03 · how do i get recommended by ai
How to get named by AI tools.
Answer the question the buyer asked, in plain language, on a page you own, and make the facts about your practice easy to extract. That is most of it.
The rest is housekeeping most sites fail: pages that load, headings that match what somebody typed, a filled out profile, and a review flow that runs whether anyone remembers it or not.
Write the answer, not the ad
A page that states what something costs, how long it takes and what goes wrong gets quoted. A page of adjectives does not.
Make your facts machine-readable
Services, service area, hours, credentials and prices belong in text on the page, not in an image or behind a form.
Keep the profile current
The Google Business Profile is the fact sheet most tools reach for first. Categories, services and photos going stale is the most common own goal I see.
Keep reviews arriving
A steady trickle of recent reviews beats a pile of old ones, and both search engines and AI tools read the recency.
04 · is ai search replacing google
Whether AI search is replacing Google.
Not yet, and betting your year on it would be reckless. BrightLocal's own 2026 read puts AI third among sources people use for local recommendations, behind search and reviews. It is a new front door, not a replacement for the building.
You do not have to choose. The same site, profile and reviews feed both, which is the good news: one body of work, not two budgets.
