BRAND IDENTITY DESIGN
I Built It A Mythology.
Strength apparel is a commodity aisle. A look can be copied in a weekend, so I built a world instead, and wrote the voice as rules a machine can check.

at a glance
A complete brand identity build for a Las Vegas strength-apparel brand: a canonical mythology of the Eldars, the Rex, the Altar and the Bones, a machine-enforceable voice system with encouraged and banned vocabulary, a collection architecture, and a live Shopify store that ships the identity end to end.
- the problem
- Strength and gym apparel is a commodity category. Most brands sell the same garments with interchangeable dark aesthetics, a logo on a blank tee, and a feed of motivational captions.
- who has it
- A direct-to-consumer strength-apparel brand whose buyers are serious lifters living inside metal and hardcore culture, people who want apparel that signals identity rather than fitness.
- the pain
- Without a distinct world, the brand competes on price and ad spend against every other dark-aesthetic store. Buyers feel nothing, so they do not return, do not refer, and never become a tribe.
- cost of doing nothing
- Commodity positioning means thin margins, no pricing power, no word of mouth, and a customer who is one similar competitor away from leaving.
01 · WHY STRENGTH APPAREL IS A COMMODITY
Why strength apparel is a commodity.
Most strength brands sell the same thing. A logo on a blank shirt, a dark aesthetic anyone can rebuild in a weekend, and a feed of motivational captions that read identically to every competitor.
When the identity is only a look, the brand competes on price and ad spend. The buyer feels nothing, so they do not come back and they leave the first time something similar costs less.
Boneyard Strength needed an identity that could not be copied by swapping colors. Serious lifters do not want a garment. They want somewhere to belong.
02 · WHAT BRAND IDENTITY DESIGN INCLUDES
What brand identity design includes.
Brand identity design, done properly, is not a logo and a palette. It is a stack of layers where each one constrains the layer above it, so the brand cannot drift as content scales.
For Boneyard Strength the stack has four layers.
03 · HOW BRAND MYTHOLOGY IS BUILT
How the brand mythology was built.
The bottom layer is the world itself, written once and then fixed. The Boneyard is a black plane between the living and the extinct. The Eldars are primal titans that predate extinction. The Rex is their executioner and judge. The Bones are the eternal record, holding the scripture of every set.
A first order is not a transaction. It is an offering laid at the Altar, witnessed by the Rex, recorded in the Bones. That reframe turns a buyer into a member of the Crew, and it is the part no competitor can lift by changing their palette.
Three values hold the world together: strength for the self and the tribe, bold design with disciplined execution, and a Crew that is an insider circle of lifters instead of a customer list.
04 · ENFORCEABLE BRAND VOICE
The brand voice as rules.
A brand voice described in prose drifts the day daily content starts. So this one was written as rules a person or a machine can check.
The tone is mythic and commanding, a legend handed down instead of a pitch made. There is an encouraged vocabulary: offering, the Altar, forged, the Crew, primal, scripture. There is a banned vocabulary that blocks the commodity register on sight: gains, beast mode, hustle, grind, sale, shop now, buy now. Generic calls to action are replaced with brand ones: enter the Boneyard, lay your offering at the Altar, join the Crew.
The rules adjust per channel. A product page leads with the collection lineage before specs. That is what keeps a brand on-brand at volume, and it is the same shape I use to hold a client's voice steady when posting runs on a schedule.
05 · SHOPIFY BRAND LAUNCH
The identity ships on Shopify.
An identity is only real if it runs a business, so the whole system ships on a live direct-to-consumer Shopify store instead of sitting in a brand book.
The catalog is organized into named lineages instead of a flat grid: Heritage for the staples, Species for the scientific-name series, Artists for collaborations, BoneyardRecords for the music-adjacent concepts, Brutuhl for the heavier line, and Relics for the artifact pieces. Each product is described as an artifact with a name and a lineage, not a SKU with a size chart. Product metadata and search markup are deployed through the store admin, and production is low-waste and made to order.
A new design is announced as a species entering the Boneyard. A summoning, never a launch.
06 · BRAND IDENTITY OUTCOME
What the brand build produced.
Boneyard Strength is no longer a logo on a blank tee competing on price. It is the only strength-apparel brand built around a full mythic universe of dinosaurs, heavy metal and ritual.
It owns a language a competitor cannot copy by changing their colors, and it gives lifters a world to belong to instead of another shirt to buy.
One note on how to read this one. Boneyard Strength is my own project, not a third-party client engagement.
