article · WEBSITE GETS TRAFFIC BUT NO LEADS

Traffic Is NotThe Problem.

Four causes, in the order to check them. Buying more traffic before you know which one you have is the most expensive mistake in this whole category.

drop: website analytics showing traffic while enquiries stay fla…

01 · why is my website not converting

Why a site gets traffic and no leads.

One of four things. The traffic is the wrong traffic, the page does not answer the question the visitor arrived with, getting in touch is harder than it looks to you, or enquiries are arriving and you are not seeing them.

Start with the fourth. It is the least likely and the fastest to rule out, and I have found broken forms on sites where the owner had already spent months on the other three.

02 · website traffic but no enquiries

Four causes of traffic without leads.

01

The enquiries are not reaching you

Submit your own form from a phone on mobile data. Then check the spam folder, the shared inbox nobody reads, and whether the notification address belongs to a staff member who left. Ten minutes, and it is not rare.

02

The traffic is the wrong traffic

A page can attract people who were never going to buy. Look at which search terms the traffic arrives on. If they are informational questions with no intent behind them, the page did its job and the job was wrong.

03

The page does not answer the question they arrived with

A visitor searching for a specific service should land on a page about that service, not the homepage. The common version is one page trying to sell six things, which sells none of them.

04

Getting in touch is more work than it looks

A form with eleven fields, a phone number that is not tappable, no indication of what happens after you submit. You know your own site too well to see this. Watch somebody else try it.

03 · how do i know if my website is working

How to check for lost enquiries.

Submit your own enquiry form from a phone on mobile data and confirm it arrives.
Call your own tracked number and confirm it rings where you think it rings.
Open the site on a mid range phone and time how long before you can read anything.
Look at what people search to arrive, then ask whether that search implies somebody ready to buy.
Hand your phone to somebody who has never seen the site and ask them to book with you. Say nothing.

04 · what makes a website convert

What makes a website convert.

Very little of this is design. It is mostly whether the page is about the thing the visitor is trying to do.

The measurable pattern is dull: one page per service, the page states what happens next, contact is visible without scrolling on a phone, and something lets a stranger believe you. For a professional practice the last one is the weak link, because credentials get listed and evidence does not.

01

One page, one job

A page serving six services and three audiences converts none of them. The highest return change on most sites I audit.

02

The next step is obvious and small

The step you ask for should be smaller than the decision. Nobody books a large engagement from a homepage. They will ask one question, and the page should invite exactly that.

03

Speed on a phone

Most of your traffic is on a phone on a mobile connection. Slow is not an aesthetic problem, it is people leaving before the page renders.

04

Something a stranger can verify

A named client, a piece of published work, a review they can click through to. Anything a visitor can check themselves outweighs any claim you make about yourself.

05 · website conversion questions

Website conversion questions.

Should I buy more traffic to fix this?
Not until you know which of the four causes you have. Paying for traffic to a page that does not convert multiplies the cost of the problem rather than solving it.
How much traffic should turn into an enquiry?
It varies enough by industry and by traffic source that a single benchmark would mislead you. The number worth watching is your own, measured before and after a change you can name.
Is it the design?
Usually not. It is usually page structure, page speed on a phone, and whether the visitor can tell what happens after they get in touch.
How much does conversion work cost?
It sits inside the Websites line at $1,000 a month, along with the build, hosting and maintenance. It is not a separate product here. Two services together are $1,799 and three are $2,499. No setup fee.
How do I find out which cause I have?
Get the site crawled and scored. The audit names the specific pages and the specific problems, ranked, and it costs nothing.

I will find which cause you have.

I will crawl the site, test the forms, check the speed on a phone, and send you a ranked list of what is losing you enquiries. No charge, and no call unless you ask for one.
