01 · is it against google policy to ask for reviews

Whether asking for reviews is allowed.

No. Asking your customers for an honest review is allowed and Google says so plainly. Three things are not: offering anything of value in exchange, asking only the customers you expect to be happy, and posting reviews on behalf of anyone.

That covers more than fake reviews. A tablet at the counter where staff type the review for the customer is the same violation, even when the customer really did say those words.

Ask everybody, ask soon, make it one tap, and never attach anything to the outcome.

02 · how to get more google reviews

How to get more Google reviews.

01

Ask at the moment of relief

Right after the problem is solved, while the customer is still glad. A day later the same request feels like admin.

02

Ask by name, from a person

A text from the technician who did the work outperforms an email from the business. Keep it two sentences and put the link on its own line.

03

Use the short link and nothing else

Google gives every profile a review link that opens the box directly. One tap, no login hunt, no landing page in between.

04

Ask every customer, not the happy ones

Selecting who gets asked is the violation with the sharpest teeth, and it also produces a profile that reads as curated. A handful of honest middling reviews makes the good ones believable.

05

Make it somebody's job

Reviews arrive at the rate somebody asks and stop when nobody does. Put the ask in the closing routine of the job.

03 · can you offer incentives for google reviews

What counts as a review incentive.

The test is whether the reward depends on the review existing or on what it says. If it does, it is an incentive, however it is dressed. Reviews bought this way also read as bought.

Discounts, credit, free products, gift cards or entry into a draw, offered for leaving a review. Not allowed.
Staff bonuses paid per review collected. Not allowed, and it produces exactly the pressure Google is looking for.
A donation to charity per review. Still an incentive, and still a violation.
Filtering customers by asking how they feel first, then only sending the link to the happy ones. Not allowed, and commonly sold as a feature.
Asking every customer to leave an honest review. Allowed.
Thanking someone afterwards, with nothing attached and no mention of what they wrote. Allowed.

04 · how to respond to a bad google review

How to answer a bad review.

Reply to all of them, good and bad, and keep the bad replies short. Three sentences: acknowledge the specific thing, say what you are doing about it, offer a way to continue off the page. No arguing about the facts in public.

Your reply is for the next customer reading it, who is deciding whether a problem at your business gets handled. A calm reply on a two star review often does more work than the five star ones above it.

Removal is worth attempting only when the review breaks a policy, which usually means it is not about a real experience with your business. Flag it once and move on.

05 · how many google reviews do i need

How many reviews you need.

Enough to beat the businesses shown next to you, and recent enough that a reader trusts the count. A profile with plenty of reviews where the newest is a year old reads worse than a smaller profile with three from this month.

Steady beats bursty. Twenty reviews arriving in one week looks like a campaign, and a slow constant trickle looks like a business that keeps its customers happy.

The honest benchmark is the search result, not a number. Look at what appears when someone searches for what you do near you, and read the counts and dates on the businesses shown above you.

06 · common questions about google reviews

Google review questions.

Can I ask for reviews by text message?
Yes, and it is usually the highest performing channel for a service business, because the link opens on the phone the customer is already holding. Keep it short, send it from a number the customer recognises, and honour opt outs.
Can I delete a Google review?
You cannot delete a review yourself. You can flag one that breaks a policy and Google decides, or ask the customer directly to update it after you have resolved the problem. The second route works more often than people expect.
Do review responses help my ranking?
They help the reading customer more than the algorithm, and that is enough reason to write them. Treat responses as sales copy read at the moment of the decision.
What is the best wording for a review request?
Name the person, name the job, ask once, put the link alone on the last line. Something like: it was good working on the kitchen today, would you mind leaving an honest review, it genuinely helps people find us. No adjectives suggested and no star count named.
Do you handle review generation?
Yes, inside the SEO line at $1,000 a month. That covers the asking system, the responses, the profile itself and the rest of the search work, three months, then month to month with no setup fee. Two services together are $1,799 and three are $2,499.
